Objectives


The objectives of the workshop are to introduce skills, concepts and strategies to:

• Introduce participants to the concepts and methods involved in requirements communication and solution assessment and validation
• Provide training that is consistent with the BABOK
• Provide comprehensive coverage of those two portions of the requirements cycle defined by the BABOK and those skill sets necessary for accomplishing those functions
• Prepare participants to effectively communicate requirements and develop consensus on requirements
• Prepare participants to participate in the executing and monitoring and controlling process groups of projects by monitoring the application of requirements and ensuring that project deliverables meet identified requirements
• Prepare participants to participate effectively in the requirements process
• Provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of user acceptance testing

 

Outline



Day 1:
• Module 1: Introduction to the workshop
This module describes the purposes and organization of the workshop and allows participants to get to know one another and identify their expectations for the workshop.
• Module 2: Review of the requirements cycle
This module provides a review of the IIBA’s requirements cycle with special attention to the roles of requirements communication and solution assessment and validation, two critical processes for ensuring that expectations and requirements are understood and that the product of the project meets user needs.
• Module 3: Requirements communication and review of BABOK™ coverage of requirements communication
o Creating the requirements communication plan
o Managing requirements conflicts
o Determining the appropriate requirements format
o Creating the requirements package
o Conducting the presentation
o Obtaining sign-off
This module provides detailed coverage of the requirements communications processes embedded in the requirements cycle and the components of the documents that enable requirements to be communicated and managed.
• Module 4: Managing requirements conflicts
This module describes the conflicts inherent in managing requirements and details a method for resolving requirements conflicts without endangering relationships.
• Module 5: Skill sets for effective communication of requirements
The module describes the skill sets necessary for effective requirements communications. Coverage will include making good requirements presentations, managing requirements meetings, and listening to elicit requirements.
Day 2:
• Module 6: Solution assessment and validation
o Purpose
o Developing alternative solutions
o Evaluating technology options
o Facilitating the selection of a solution
o Ensuring the usability of the solution
o Supporting the quality assurance process
o Supporting solution implementation
o Communicating solution impacts
o Post-implementation review and assessment
This module describes the purposes and activities involved in solution assessment and validation. Those activities include pre- and post-implementation activities.
• Module 7: Importance and challenges of UAT
This module describes the role and challenges of user acceptance testing. It details best practices and the challenges of working with solution developers and users in the testing process and the challenges of building a solid testing process in an organization that might not be fully familiar with the benefits of good user testing.
• Module 8: Risk-based testing
This module describes the convergence between project risk identification and effective testing. It includes techniques for identifying and analyzing risks.
• Module 9: Test planning
This module describes the processes necessary to develop a solid test plan, including the test environment, the schedule, deliverables, and test management.
• Module 10: Test scenarios and test types
This module describes the varieties of tests and their purposes and the development of test scenarios and scripts.
• Module 11: Workshop wrap-up
This module allows participants to ask remaining questions and evaluate the workshop.
